01 He Noticed the Person
“He noticed the person.”
Jesus gave attention to the individual in front of Him. He did not see people only as problems to solve, interruptions to manage or opportunities to deliver a message.
In relational evangelism, noticing a person means intentionally paying attention to the individual before you.
A youth leader arrives at church with several things to organize before the service. While walking through the compound, he notices a teenager sitting alone. He sees him, but continues with his preparations because there are many things that need to be completed.
Later, someone tells the leader that the teenager has been struggling at school. The leader responds, “We can talk about that during the next youth meeting.”
A teacher sees a student entering the classroom late. Without looking at the student for long, the teacher immediately says, “You are late again. You need to learn to manage your time.”
The teacher then continues teaching without giving attention to the student as an individual.
A Christian meets a young man sitting alone outside a community centre. Instead of simply walking past him, she stops, looks at him and gives him her attention.
She introduces herself and says, “I have seen you here a few times. How are you doing?” She is not rushing to give him advice or start a religious discussion. She has intentionally noticed the individual standing in front of her.
A church member approaches a group of young people because he needs support for a fundraising project. He quickly explains the project, asks everyone to contribute and then moves to the next group.
Although he speaks directly to the young people, his main focus is getting the response he needs for the project.

What Are You Learning?
Noticing a person is more than simply seeing them. It means intentionally giving attention to the individual in front of you. Before asking what you can say, teach or give, you first recognize that there is a person standing before you who deserves your attention. Jesus did not simply see situations; He saw people. In relational evangelism, this becomes an important starting point: before moving toward deeper conversation, learn to genuinely notice the person in front of you.
